All the rumors and conjectures around Nokia’s first Android smartphone are finally about to be put to rest as the Finnish company is gearing up to finally unveil the Nokia X aka Normandy later today.
From what we know of the device so far, the Nokia X is likely to be an entry-level Android smartphone designed like the Asha devices with a bright colored body and a physical back button. On the software front, it will be running on an AOSP version of Android or what Nokia calls Asha on Linux.
This version of the OS doesn’t have access to Google’s suite of apps and they will instead be replaced by Microsoft’s apps. So for example, instead of Google Maps you will get HERE Maps, Google Search will be replaced by Microsoft’s Bing search, Gmail by Outlook and so on. Recent leaked photos also show that the UI will look a lot like Windows Phone and will also boast Live Tiles on the homescreen.
