Method 1 of 5: Speeding Up Your DNS Server

Are you frustrated with low download speeds? Ever wondered how to increase your download speed significantly? While it's impossible to completely optimize your internet performance and download speed, the following tips and tricks will help significantly

Visit an internet speed testing website and take note of your download and upload speed. You're going to want a benchmark, so that you can compare the before speed (slower) to the after speed (faster).

• To get to an internet speed testing website, simply type in "internet speed test" into a search engine and find one that will perform a test for free. There should be plenty of options to choose from.
• Once at an internet speed testing website, input your geographic location (if necessary) and perform the test. The test should spit out a download speed as well as an upload speed. Take note of these numbers.

     Go to where your computer stores its DNS information.^[1] The location of this information will be different depending on what operating system you're using. Here's how to get there:
     • Windows 7/Vista: Start → Control Panel → View network status and tasks → View status (click on your local or wireless connection) → Properties → Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) → Properties. Once you are here, click on "Use the following DNS server addresses."
     • Mac OSX: System Preferences → Network → View status (click on your local or wireless connection) → Advanced → DNS

     Remove the old DNS number and type in two or three open DNS server addresses. Open DNS server addresses include "208.67.222.222" and "208.67.220.220" for example. Apply the changes once finished.
     • If you want to search for custom DNS server addresses, use an application like Gibson Research Corporation's Domain Name Speed Benchmark orNamebench. These will test your system and suggest benchmark addresses that you can use.

     Close out your browser, open it again, and test out the speed of your new DNS address. Go back to the same speed test website you used earlier and see for yourself how changing your DNS can boost your internet speed.

Sometimes you may wish to see the photos of a certain facebook user but you cannot as the target person is not directly your friend evens not your friends of friends. You cannot see much information of that user when you go to her profile page, may be you just see the ‘Info’ tab saying that “<Name> only shares some of her profile information with everyone. If you know <Name>, send her a message or add her as a friend.”, sometimes you may find the ‘Wall’ tab also just like the following image.

You see the ‘Photos’ tab is missing but you want to see her photos. You know the photo privacy settings have 4 options:

1. Everyone
2. Friends of Friends
3. Only Friends
4. Customize

‘Friends of Friends’ is the default settings. We are assuming that the above person has not changed her privacy settings for photos. But still as you are not her friend evens not friend of friends, you are not eligible to see her photos. Don’t be disappointed, there is a way to reveal those. Follow the steps:

1. Login to facebook
2. Search for your target person
3. Go to her profile page
4. Copy the code and paste it into the browser’s address bar and hit the ENTER key.

How To Use Custom Background Images In Gmail

Have you ever wondered how to use a custom background image for Gmail? Well now you can and that too without having to use any add-ons or anything. This even works for those using Gmail through Google Apps.

Just follow these simple steps in order to use a Custom Background in Gmail :

• Log into Gmail like usual. Don’t use Basic HTML version. Now near the top right corner you should be able to see “Settings”. Click on that.
• Now select Themes Tab. This will reveal the default themes provided by Google. Along with the Default themes there will be a “Create Your Own Theme” option. Click on that.

• A new window should open as shown above. Now just modify the basic colors of the theme by clicking on the down arrows in this window. If you click on the down arrow in the top left corner there will be “Select” option allowing you to put a custom background as shown in the picture. Also click on the arrow at the bottom left corner and select an image.
• Remember that you are using the same image twice so there may be some kind of cut line in the image. If you want to get rid of this the only way is to use a single image. You can either crop the image into the required resolutions or just add background in the top left arrow menu only. This will give you a single image as long as the height of the window is less than or same as that of the image you used. The best method is to just use a really long image . If you are putting a tiled background then you do not have to worry about aspect ratios that much. Just add the tiled background in both menus.

That’s it. Now you can use your own custom images as background in Gmail.
